I had to pick a book up for my niece this week and couldn't find the book in the shop so asked an assistant for help, through the course of the actions the assistant and I got to talking about teenage vampire books and their popularity. The assistant was in her forties like myself and during the course of the conversation she asked me if I liked Twilight. I tread very carefully when replying to this question, one because I have been a vampire fan all my life. My fetish started with the book Dracula, became visual with Hammer Horror and Christopher Lee who was my ultimate fantasy while growing up. My fetish grew up and honed itself with books such as The Hunger and The Vampire Chronicles and tends to stay on the darker side of the genre. ( Read more... ) |

I just found a clip of Bauhaus doing a cover of Joy Divisions, Transmission, only Bauhaus could do a good cover of JD, just as they did with Ziggy and Telegram Sam, enjoy and do it well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFWBWTLy |

Spent some time today with one of my guilty pleasures I was raised listening to all kinds of music thanks to my large family I came into contact with all sorts of music that most kids just didn't get to hear, how many white kids in the late sixties where tuning into the like of Jimmy Cliff or the Detroit sound of Tamala Mowtown thanks to their aunts and uncles. But the first music I guess I could call the stuff I found on my own after Bowie was Glam Rock, from T.Rex and Bowie to bands like Sweet and Wizard (greatly helped by the fact that the niece of one of the drummers of Wizzard, lived across the road from us, in fact their house is still referred to as the Lloyd's house even though they moved out about 30 years ago)Glam Rock was popular to a degree, but right at the very start you were considered to be a bit odd if you were into bands with men in make-up and dressed like space divas on crack to leather bound bikers with high heeled boots and lip gloss you could share. Of course Bowie and Bolan made it acceptable, but it was mainly rock music amid at... to coin the phrase of times, 'birds'. But Glam rock opened the door to darker heavier rock and from there to punk and finally to my home coming what would become Gothic Rock. Yes I am an original Goth before us there were no Goth's, we invented the look and our peers the music and it was nearly all culled from Glam Rock and bands like Alice Cooper and the New York Dolls. So to day I had some free time but not enough to do anything really constructive with so I looked up a few of the old tracks on the net and enjoyed every minute of my rampage down memory boulevard. (Sweet had an album called Desolation Boulevard and a song called Teenage Rampage) So here's a few links to what you missed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgUQ1TgR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ynsxk9WA Oh and Kiss stole the make-up and hair from Roy Wood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sih9OVo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_I4ylzb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEalg62F http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v342TST9 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfjAEWHr I could go on but the list is never ending, all I can say is thank Fxxx for these bands if I grew up with the crap that is peddled now as music I think I to would be a mindless moron as well. Oh and if you follow this to its logical conclusion this is where you end up... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flVEoNuE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a_YQXFs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hsWZO8e To name but three, I never went back, I remained angry, I remained belligerent.I miss clubs that used to be like this as I am happiest in a near blacked out room with this kind of music playing. Its just a shame I have to come out into the world of plastic people and their pettiness. |

So went to see X Men First Class this morning, last time I went to the pictures in the morning I was about 12, so it was rather odd, but fun. I had been looking forward to seeing X Men since I heard Jane Goldman had been involved with the script, she is a real spark. And it didn't fail to deliver for me. I found all the characters believable if a little hard to see how some got to be so nasty by the end of the original trilogy(also wondering why they all got killed off at the end of Last Stand and yes Muppet it is the worst X Men film of all time)but I liked all the back stories and the premiss, you have to love a film that rewrites history to say the Cuban Missile crisis was set up by mutants, at least it had more credence than Sarah Palin's attempt to rewrite history. Special affects were good but it wasn't all effects and no affect, you really cared about the characters and Kevin Bacon was so easy to hate,he was a German. By the same token James McAvoy was really easy to like (he is rather easy on the eye and never anything but charming)even Magento was easy to care about and gave life to words, that some hurts can't heal. The cameo of Wolverine was spot on; lets hope the new Wolverine film if they ever get it off the ground is as a good as X Men Fist Class and the pace of the story was set just right with a few twists to keep you wondering but there is a big give away in the head gear folks, oh and it had the tennis ball in throat moment as well. The film left you wanting to know more about all of the characters and their lives not just what they could do as mutants which is a good thing. So all in all a great start, let hope they do more, as James wants at least three ending up where X Men starts and I am along for the ride if they do. X Men First class goes straight to the top of the class for me(corny or what) ;-) |

OK week three and guess what, yep I am none the wiser and growing less interested in the whole thing; have now started taking the piss, aiding my own dialogue which on every level is better then the script. Nothing happens, I hate all the characters and really want someone to kill them all then I would be happy. Lets hope the White Walkers will live up to their billing and kill the lot of the moaning, snide, simpering useless bunch of wankers and the sooner the better. So why do I keep watching, well I thought Primeval was rubbish and ended up loving it so I am hoping for more of the same from Game of Thrones. Why do the writer think if they swear through out the story it will make it cool. I am rarely offended by things, swearing least of all being a frequent user of profanity, but there is one word I don't use unless really pushed and that is C--t and I get really pissed off when some twat of a man uses in reference to a woman and tonight in this episode of Game of Thrones it was uncalled for to hear it used as it was, it added nothing to the dialogue just showed that the writers are shit at their job. Misogynist clap trap by writers who will have trouble filling in their unemployment forms come the day. |

I think I am about to have one of those Emperor's New clothes moments so I will begin by saying that the nearly full English, Irish, Scots, one Dane and one Yank, cast of Game of Thrones are really good actors, because they managed to turn this badly written dirge into something that you hope will get better; the thought that it could get worse is hard to imagine but then this is fantasy. What was going on in the story, who really knows its a bit like Lord of the Rings for Chavs or were they black gangs. I kept telling myself you're missing it, its meant to be a good story with people falling over themselves in anticipation for each new book in the saga, so it must be me. But and here is comes that Emperor and his new clothes, I don't think it is me I think this actually be really badly written and in that I mean the screen play I am not in a position to say if the books are this badly written with the childish porn, misogyny and puerile dialogue as the screen play. It quickly became old and boring with a stream of naked women on their knees being giving a good seeing to from behind by anything with a dick (just in case you didn't get how useless and lowly and unimportant to the story women were, the director made sure you saw most women on their knees before some man or other)only punctuated by violence, someone losing their head, not metaphorically but actually losing their head. I know its only episode one but that is no excuse for such crass writing even I the fantasy genre. I will continue to watch, as there is nothing else on TV at that time on a Monday night and or till it gets to bad to watch. Believe me I am hoping I am wrong and the story gets really good and the cheap sensationalism is replaced by quality dialogue and upright women. But my final thought has to be, if the books are just a fraction as bad as this, how the hell did they become so popular and why are American absolutely shite at writing fantasy with any believability. |

A friend of mine was at work yesterday and tends to have tunnel vision about things; so a work college of hers and said "Oh Kelly isn't it sad Liz Taylor has died". My friend throws her hands up in horror and says, "What, how, how do you know her- Oh god I must go and ring her mom." Yes folks my friend thought I had died. One of the things I love about my friend is she is so blonde and so innocent with that blonde-ness. |

Its sad when anyone dies but this lady was such a star in the true sense of the word, from her wild love affairs to her brilliant acting in films such as Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf she was a star through and through and she lived ever inch of her life to the full. Thank you for some memorable moments and for the name! Yes I have the same name as the great lady and have spent my life replying to my name with... 'No Dick isn't with me' and 'Yes I wish I had her money and her men' (with a grimace) we shared the same weight problems as well. Oh I know just how she suffered on that front but I never had the stunning looks to lose (I was born a bag of shit and will die a bag of shit). But at least Ms Taylor will be remembered more for Cleopatra and her stunning beauty in that film then for the latter years. blessings on your house. |

And they really think they can have a fourth series after last night, oh no.From here on in its just another Vampire and Werewolf programme. I don't care that the Vamps want to take over I hate Nina I always have so I don't care about the sprog werewolf. There is absolutely nothing to keep you interested in the story because it was the battle to be human that made the programme so interesting and that battle was epitomised by one character and his love for his friends. I will take series 1-3 and leave it at that, I don't want to see the programme become like the Vampires it portrays hanging on for grime death when they know its all over. |

My cousins has just sent me the below piece of offensive drivel and to be frank I am really annoyed that she has dared to send it to me. Like most religious people she has no respect for other peoples views, because why would you send something like this to anyone but especially a militant Atheist like myself is beyond my understanding. Apart from the fact that I don't hold with one word of it, its wrong and mis-information, Australia was not founded on Christian principles but populated by convicts, whores and murderers who were deported there in the first place because the society of the time in the UK had had enough of their Godless evil acts, so why it may now be an respectable nation, its past would suggest that people in glass houses should not throw stones. The promotion of Christianity with in the British Empire was not out of religious choice, but out of desire to survive as there were many laws in place to prohibit non Christians from prospering in British society and they had been in place for many centuries. But that is second to the fact that I find all religions with the one exception being Pagans, to be as bad as one another all promoting evil unspeakable acts against other human beings in the name of their gods. I have never heard a true Pagan say they are marching to war for the Goddess or that they are going on a crusade, jihad, whatever in the name of the Goddess but I could be wrong. But that is all you ever hear from organised religion.Organised religions are a disgrace through out history they have done nothing but inflict their will on others and caused pain and suffering while bringing little comfort to those it professes to guide. Now while I have no problem with the sentiment of when in Rome, do as the Romans do and can't understand why someone would move to a country that they didn't believe in the culture of, but then I don't understand a great deal of what so called human beings get up too. But then as my cousin made clear in sending me this propagander in the first place, all religious people think that others should convert to their way of thinking, while failing to accept that others also have the right to not believe as they do to maintain a balance. My problem is now what I do about this, my cousin will be offended if I tell her the truth, I know she will because to make it plain to her how I feel will require some rather forceful telling; but I really think she needs to pull her bloody head in to use an Aussie expression and stop spreading this crap. This kind of rhetoric does not make the world a safer place, the only thing that would make the world safer is the removal off all religion, but while we are stuck with it then no religion should be held higher than the humans it was made to serve. AND DON'T SEND ME RELIGIOUS PROPAGNDA OR YOU JUST MIGHT MEET WITH THE DEVIL YOU ALL LIVE IN FEAR OF EVOKING... AMAZING You must read it !!!! ( Read more... ) |

Can TV get much better the spookylicious Marchlands is a breath of fresh air in a TV schedule mainly filled with crappy soaps about chavs and slappers who can't keep their knickers on masquerading a intelligent TV for the brainless morons who are as stupid as the crap they watch. I can't wait to see how this little gem of a ghost story pans out and hope that it lives up to its start. Equally wonderful is the third series of Being Human, it just seems to get better with each outing and really puts to shame the American sanitized versions of vampires with its mix of black humour and macabre horror it has become a must watch for the enlightened. Touching and funny with a twist in the tale each week and of course Mitchell, enough said you either are into BH and get it or your just some deadest stiff. |

I am an old school Japan fan when they looked like this... and this... But I still loved them when they became this... But my heart was still with the New York Dolls wanabees that played Barbarella's in Birmigham and later the Odeon on a couple of occasions, all memorable gigs that brought much happiness and fun, especially after the gig at the Rum Runner, OK so we couldn't get near the band but they were there and that was all that mattered, they were in the club and well you weren't going to go all fan girls on them, you would never get passed security and only hanging out with the band wasn't considered cool when there was great music to dance too, it was enough to know the lads were at the Runner. Anyway my extremely tall friend kept fainting every time DS passed, it wasn't just the effect he was having on her, she was an anorexic loaded on cheap booze, slimming pills and fags, the last thing she chewed on was stick as she was laced into her corset- but the legs did keep giving way and that wasn't unlike a giraffe going down, there was just to much leg to get together to get her up right, so after the third time we left her on the floor, till DS passed by again,(no point in getting her up till he had come back from the loo was there)he asked if she was OK, that finished her off completely it was hours before we could do anything sensible with her. Not that sensible and my friend ever shared the same sentence space. But that was just one of the very happy memories I have thanks to the band Japan. So I was very sad to hear of Mick Karn's passing earlier yesterday. He was only 52, no age to die(not that there is an age to die but you know like around 90 you can at least say OK fair enough) I feel like I have lost something special and of course there will never be that moment when the band gets back together- OK so MK and Ds had trouble being in the same room, but you only have that much trouble with someone you really love and they had been friends since they were 15, (didn't help David nicking Mick's girl friend did it David)but there was always that glimmer of hope, with Mick's passing that has gone and that is sad because while they were always good solo there were brilliantly when they were together...guess its raining on your parade! Blessings and love on you Mick and thank you for much happiness. Peace and blessings to your family. http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2011/0 "After a brave battle with cancer, former Japan bassist Mick Karn has passed away at the age of 52. The fretless bassist left an indelible mark on the ‘70s and ‘80s low-end scene with his unique style and phrasing. After glam rockers Japan split up, he collaborated with Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy in the group Dalis Car, as well as worked with artists such as Gary Numan and Kate Bush. A statement on his website announced the sad news. “It’s with profound sadness that we have to inform you that Mick finally lost his battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at 4.30pm today, 4th January 2011 at home in Chelsea, London. He was surrounded by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.” Our condolences go to the family and friends of Mick Karn." (quote from No Treble.) http://www.wired.com/underwire/2010/1 This really tickled me, made me a bit sad for the poor little Kinect as well, but I get upset at the chewing come advert with the little vegetables following that lad about and he doesn't want them, why they are really sweet and I love them, they can come and live with me. But anyway back to the sane world this will give you wry smile if not more, feel the Kinect love people. |

I can't believe Labour have learned nothing. Fancy voting for a Union Lap Puppy, this fool is still waiting for his balls to drop and then we will have wait for him to learn to use them before anything gets done. He doesn't even speak with any charisma or passion, he has all the inspiration of a wet fish- give me strength. I am so fucking stick of seeing prick after prick running countries just because they have prick; I wouldn't let Ed Miliband feed my cat. He couldn't even carry the vote of other MP's or activists, he won because he got the Union vote. I am now in the unhappy position of paying taxes with out representation, none of these twats in any party speak to me or my staff or our problems they are only interested in mom and dad with kids. Boring, boring, boring. I am sorry sister suffragettes I know you gave much for me to vote but these twats are just an insult to your struggle. |

I was going to comment on the BP oil spill objectively unlike most people at present but I couldn't be bothered to deal with the bucket load of shit I would get for pointing out a few home truths. So I was happy to read left winger Tony Parsons column this morning and will just link you to it, says everything I wanted to say, except that not all racists are white skin headed neo- Nazi's. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/column I think its very clear that Pres O is anti British...funny my great grandfather felt very differently, he was welcomed here in the UK and treated just like anyone else, where as in his native America he was considered scum. IN the UK he married a white girl in the US he wasn't allowed to drink out the same water fountain. To use an American saying, when you point the finger President O, three are pointing back at you. |

I have XP Home Edition on Comp and I did a disk clean up, while I was doing it I decided to ask for an automatic disk scan for volume and to correct any errors it found when I next started up the computer. It duly did the scan and all seemed well but now the computer keeps doing it every time I start up. I only wanted to do it that one time and now I can’t get it to stop. I went back into tools section and thought if I un-checked the check box that asked for this scan to be done then all would be well; but when I tried to un-check the box I found it wasn't checked. Now I don't know what to do and Microsoft want to charge £11.00 for them to tell me how to stop it. Given if I hit any key during the count down it wont do the scan I think £11.00 is a bit steep for something that should be free. So does anyone know how I make it stop scanning the disk every time I start up? (and could you explain it like I am backward, stupid and have absolutely no idea what a computer is) Thanks… |
